The setting sun reflects off of these leaves. From a distance they blend together forming a blanket of green hardly discernible individually, just vastness of color making up the forest that I was in.

However, when we stop and look closely, taking the time to see the real story, we learn this ‘color’ is much more intricate than we mostly care to learn.

Looking closer we see the intricacies in each leaf, how each one differs from the other, moving even closer we then begin to see the imperfections, the areas where insects began to feed leaving gaping holes in the surface of these plants.

Everything looks better from a distance. You don’t see the flaws. It’s the same in our lives. From a distance everything looks great, wonderful, especially when we are observing other peoples lives, it always seems so much better than our own.

But I will tell you something factual: The only perfect person is the one you know nothing about!

The more you learn about others, you will see, the more we are the same. We all have faults, blemishes, flaws, both physical and mental, in varying degrees.

What I am trying to say today is you need to give yourself a break from yourself sometimes.

Sometimes we are way too hard on ourselves. Life is tough enough without us piling more pressure on.

We are all imperfect. It’s ok. I’m pointing this out so hopefully you, we, can find comfort in this.

We exist each day with all of these subliminal pressures put upon us by others, by advertising, by ourselves, to be better, better looking, have more stuff, be better than our neighbors, to win at everything, to win the contest of everything. It’s exhausting.

It’s ok to be you. To embrace your life, make the subtle changes if you wish, but do it for you. All change starts with desire, a fire burning within us to achieve or obtain something we desire.

I have a few of those incomplete tasks within. But why didn’t I achieve them? I ask myself this morning. (I’ve been awake for about three minutes so far, this is how it goes with me, 1000 mph, or sleeping).

No-one is perfect.

Give yourself a break from personal criticism.

If you have a goal you wish to accomplish, visualize it, write it down on a post-it, put it somewhere you look at each day.

Everything starts with a first step. Your goal may be as simple as to stop comparing yourself to others. Or it may be joining a gym to get healthier. Whatever it is only you can make it happen. It starts with that first step.

If things don’t work out today, you start again tomorrow. If you sit back, I promise you nothing will happen. If you move in the right direction, things will change.

We talked about two things today: Being easier on yourself by not comparing yourself to others, and, making changes if you wish, and how inaction is a guarantee fail, only you can make a change.

Regardless of what you do today, I’m going to go now and eat an apple, some almonds, and drink about 32 ounces of water. Why? Because that’s how I start every day.

If only I can put together a complete day of eating right, then do it again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, things will change for me as well.

I think I found my next challenge!
